Do you need a support platform, or do you need answers?
Most teams searching for an alternative are not unhappy with the software. They are paying for a staffed-desk platform to solve a question-answering problem. This page is an honest attempt to help you tell which one you have.
Support suites are priced for organisations running a staffed desk. If your actual need is “answer the forty questions our docs already cover”, you are paying for a helpdesk, an inbox, a CRM and a marketing automation layer to get a chat widget.
Most of the platform goes unused
Tours, series, surveys, workflows, outbound campaigns. Powerful if you use them; overhead if you do not. Every unused module is another thing to configure, permission and explain to a new hire.
Setup was a project, not an afternoon
Rolling out a support platform properly involves inbox routing, macros, SLAs and team structure. Getting a docs-trained assistant answering takes about two minutes.
Which problem do you actually have?
We would rather you pick correctly than pick us. If the left column describes your team, a full platform is the right tool and this page is not for you.
A full support suite is the right answer when…
You have agents staffing a live queue during business hours
You need a shared inbox with routing, assignment and SLAs
Outbound messaging, tours and campaigns are part of your growth motion
You run tightly integrated workflows across CRM, billing and support
Compliance requires audit trails and controls a focused tool will not have
A focused assistant is the right answer when…
The bulk of your volume is repeat questions your content already answers
Nobody is sitting in a live queue at 9pm, and pretending otherwise helps nobody
You want answers grounded in your own docs, with the source shown
You need it live this afternoon, not after an implementation call
You would rather spend the difference on writing better documentation
What CustomerBot does
Trained on your own contentWebsite crawl, PDFs, pasted text and Q&A pairs in one index
Answers cite their sourceSo a wrong answer is traceable to a wrong page
95+ languagesDetected per message, from one knowledge base
40+ models to choose fromAcross OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, Meta, Mistral and more
API toolsDescribe an endpoint in English; the assistant calls it mid-chat
Lead capture and exportStatuses, filtering, bulk updates, CSV out
Four team roles per assistantOwner, admin, editor, viewer
Android and iOS appRead transcripts and leads away from a desk
What it does not do
A staffed live-agent console with a real-time chat queue
A shared team inbox with routing, assignment and SLAs
Outbound campaigns, product tours or in-app surveys
A ticketing system with statuses and escalation paths
A self-hosted or on-premise deployment
This list is here on purpose. Finding it out after you have trained an assistant is a worse experience for everyone.
On comparisons generally. Other products' features and pricing change frequently and we are not in a position to describe them accurately over time, so this page deliberately does not try. It describes categories of need and what CustomerBot itself does. For anyone else's current capabilities and prices, check their own site — and if the two tools genuinely overlap for your use case, run both against ten real questions from your own inbox. That comparison is worth more than any page either of us writes.
Switching questions
Is this a drop-in replacement for a support platform?+
No, and it would be dishonest to say otherwise. CustomerBot does one job — answering questions from your own content, and escalating cleanly when it should not answer. If you need a shared inbox, ticketing and a staffed live queue, you need a support platform. Many teams run both: the assistant on the marketing site and docs, the platform for the desk.
Can I run it alongside my existing helpdesk?+
Yes. It is a script tag on your own pages, so it coexists with anything else you run. A common pattern is putting it on the documentation and marketing site — where deflection is highest and a staffed queue makes least sense — while the helpdesk keeps the authenticated app.
How does handover work without a live agent seat?+
The assistant states its limit, collects the visitor’s details and passes the whole conversation to your team, using a message you write. It is a clean escalation rather than a real-time transfer. For teams without a staffed queue this is usually more honest than a chat that nobody is watching.
What does it cost?+
A free plan with one assistant and 50 conversations a month, then $39 and $79 monthly tiers. Full details are on the pricing page, including conversation allowances and what each plan includes.
How long does migration take?+
There is nothing to migrate in the usual sense. You point it at your existing documentation, it indexes it, and you swap one script tag for another. Most of the work is deciding which pages to train on and writing a good system prompt.
Take ten from last week's inbox, train an assistant on your docs, and see how many it gets right. That answers this question better than any comparison table.
